Letter From HLL President

Written by: Myron McCurdy
Friday, June 14, 2013

Hello again HLL families,

Somehow it seems like just yesterday that our kids were trying to practice on snow-dusted fields, wearing layers of sweatshirts and hats.  And now, the 2013 Hershey Little League (HLL) Season is winding down as we approach the championship games for Minors and Majors this Saturday, we have voted for the 12U, 11U, 10U and 9U Hershey All-Star teams, and very soon we will begin registration and planning for HLL’s 2013 Fall Baseball season.

Season Recap

What an awesome season it has been and we are so blessed to be a part of and serve as the leaders of this great program and community that is HLL.  Congratulations to all of the kids and their coaches for making this a fun-filled, improvement-based baseball experience over the last four months.  Of course, none of this season’s success would be possible without the ongoing help and support of all the HLL parents and families, the steady guidance and energy of the HLL Board members and the consistent and tireless effort of the Commissioners in each league/division.  There have been a few setbacks along the way (like several inches of snow just a few days before Opening Day, schedule disputes and seemingly-endless adjustments, rain-postponed Summer Camps, and a soggy end-of-season run to the playoffs, to name a few) but at the end of this weekend it will have been worth it all if your kids can head into summer with many great memories and experiences taken from their friends, coaches and HLL.

But be assured, there is still plenty of baseball continuing after this weekend even with the ending of our T-Ball through Majors’ regular season.  Our six All-Star teams will soon begin practices and become our Hershey Baseball representatives throughout the region in their various tournaments, while our Middle and High School players in the Teener Divisions and American Legion are in the midst of their seasons.  Please continue to check out the HLL Website and Facebook often to follow their success and come out to the fields in support of all of these Hershey teams when you can.

As the 2013 HLL regular season does come to a close, there are again many things that our organization has to begin working on as we enjoy summer but inch toward fall and another HLL baseball season in 2014.

Fall Ball

Our Hershey Fall Baseball program registrations will be opening soon.  HLL Board member and Treasurer Pat Meister has agreed to serve as our Fall Ball Commissioner.  But, Pat and other Board members will need plenty of help in all of the areas and challenges of running the program for the many children from Hershey and other nearby communities.  Please register your players early and be thinking of how you can volunteer to make this program as successful as it has been in previous years. More information will be sent out shortly, and details will also be listed on the HLL website and on Facebook.

Board Vacancies

There will be six (6) openings on the 2014 HLL Board of Directors as the terms of five current members will be ending in September.  If you have had ideas, concerns or complaints about anything that would benefit HLL, please consider getting more involved to help us continue improving by running for election to the 2014 Board.  The Annual Meeting to elect new members will be held the second Sunday in September and it would be great to have a full Board again going forward into the next three years of HLL.   More information and details will be sent out as the Annual Meeting draws closer, but please talk with any current or past Board members if you have questions or need more information on the role and duties of the HLL Board of Directors.

Again, it has been a great honor for those of us on your HLL Board to work for you this year and we are grateful for your trust, support, encouragement and feedback along the way.  We hope you will all have a great summer and we look forward to beginning the work toward another successful HLL season in 2014.
